Quadrennial Energy Review — Second Installment

[Politico’s Morning Energy] The Obama administration’s second – and final – Quadrennial Energy Review is coming out today. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Sen. Maria Cantwell and Obama climate aide Dan Utech are rolling out the tome, which aims to align energy policies across the federal government, at 10 a.m. in Dirksen 366, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing room. The first QER focused on the sizable subject of transmission, storage and distribution infrastructure, and today’s Part Two is similarly wide-ranging: “the entire electricity supply chain from generation, through transmission and distribution, to end use,” the agency has said. The new QER, dubbed version 1.2, focuses on five major trends, including the growing interdependencies between the electric grid and other critical infrastructure (think telecommunications and water systems), management challenges of the grid, decarbonization of the system and national security threats…
