[From a Greenwire article by Scott Streater, sub. req’d] Voluntary measures implemented by states and counties across the West are adequately protecting and restoring millions of acres of greater sage grouse habitat on public and private lands, according to a new report by Western governors that argues against the need to list the bird for federal protection…

[The report] highlights efforts in states including Colorado, Idaho and Montana, which collectively have protected 350,000 acres of grouse habitat on mostly private lands through the purchase of conservation easements. It also credits federal partnerships with landowners, noting that an additional 450,000 acres of private lands in the grouse’s range have been placed into easements through the Agriculture Department’s Natural Resources Conservation Service…
