[From a Greenwire article by Scott Streater, sub. req’d] Hundreds of thousands of homes across the West are at very high or high risk of being damaged or destroyed by wildfires, according to a new report that calculates it would cost $237 billion to rebuild those homes if destroyed…

The first measurement used is an analysis of the wildfire risks of individual properties in the study area, based upon the costs to rebuild the single-family residences if they were destroyed. There are nearly 900,000 homes at very high or high risk of wildfire under this measurement, particularly in California, Colorado and Texas.

A total of 192,000 homes are in the very high-risk category, with an estimated total reconstruction value cost of nearly $50 billion, the report says…
