[From an Energy Wire article by Peter Behr, sub. req’d] A new report on the growing reliance of electric power generators on natural gas supplies calls on the gas industry to monitor its operations to give grid operators early warning of supply emergencies…Gas supply adequacy needs to be a crucial part of reliability assessments by the grid’s security monitor, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC), the study says.

The gas industry, for its part, needs to create the kind of system reliability oversight that NERC provides, the study says, to give grid operators and power generators advance warning of possible shortages of gas supply due to pipeline outages or other delivery issues…
