The Challenge of Mitigating Virginia’s Flooding and Sea Level Rise Impacts

[From Press Release] A study released today by Wetlands Watch, found hundreds of millions in flood mitigation and sea level rise adaptation costs that have not been counted before. In just five Hampton Roads cities, the study found $430,000,000 in requests for assistance from flooded property owners. Since government relief funding is not keeping pace, these property owners will wait between 78 and 188 years for help, stranded by inaction. The total for all of Virginia is undoubtedly in the billions of dollars.
