[From a Greenwire article bt Jason Plautz, sub. req'd] A plan requiring 11 Northeast and mid-Atlantic states to slash heat-trapping emissions from transportation fuel could slash oil consumption by as much as 8.7 billion gallons a year by 2022 with cost savings of as much as $137 billion, according to an analysis by a group of state air regulators.
The nonprofit Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) prepared the analysis to help the states craft a low-carbon fuel standard to cut the carbon intensity of transportation fuels.
